Working abroad

My bil has recently hired a domestic helper to help with house chores at home. The helper will follow wherever my mil goes. She looks very decent and smiley. But what breaks my heart is, she herself a mum of two little boys aged 5 and 7. Days ago, she video-called her sons and they asked her to come home. The 5yo boy is same age with Cheng who still very much craves for parents’ love and attention. I’m sad to see this young mum leaving the family behind just to make a living in a foreign land. I will not know how long she will survive, some people have serious homesick and will not be able to work at all. I hope she toughens herself up to face the reality of life. Many years ago and even now, my kind bosses always tell me that whatever decision the country makes today is for the better future of our kids tomorrow. Citing examples from neighbouring countries, our children should only be an expat when they leave their homeland to work. It’s a pain to be apart from family to earn a livelihood.
