Merdeka parade
Malaysia is celebrating its 61st birthday this year and after so many years the parades were hosted in the city of KL, it was in Putrajaya this time, taking place the stretch outside my office. Since hubby’s promise to take the kids there in 2016 where they were down with HFMD, we still couldn’t make it last year and this time, I really had no excuse not to bring them there since my office promised us a parking space, it was such a convenience. And I had no reason not to go because I left my pouch at office which if I didn't go and pick up, I couldn’t survive the long weekend as I only had rm50 with me, from the piggy bank we kept at home for emergency use. So the kids were excited where we set off really early, even nearly 7 but they got bored over time because the parade was too long and slow. But it was overall a good and priceless experience. The only regret is, we were there without hubby. I think we could do it better with his presence because he would explain things better. He caught me explaining cyclone typhoon to Cheng as part of Mother Nature and weather cant be explained and predicted, so he shook his head. Hahaha, in my defence, I returned sciences back to my school right after I finished SPM. Peace ok!! Anyway back to the story of our nation celebrating its independence, the patriotism this time is widely and loudly shown by people all walks of life, with some comments that because being a new Malaysia. I think the mindset should be corrected, we love the country regardless who the ruling party is. Be like someone at home who without fail decorating the house with jalur gemilang in the month of August and take them down after September 16. Even the postman recognised our house by making remarks “rumah yang gantung jalur gemilang tu kan”. Hahahaha!
the merdeka month
While this week has a very long weekend, thanks to our PM for an extra day off on Monday. I'm feeling a little sad that August is coming to an end. I get some priviledges throughout this month because, one, there is always merdeka sale, two, there will be some extra discounts due to my birthday. I hardly utilise the vouchers given because I have been telling myself to be a minimalist. This time around, I'm still very tempted but I just have to keep reminding myself. I guess the only redemption I managed to get is going for a movie with the kids. Today, we did not manage to go to the Dataran Merdeka for the parade because we were too excited last night for the holiday granted. We went for late night supper and stayed up to listen to PM's speech. Today, as other public holiday would be, the city is quite empty but shopping malls are just so packed. We survived the whole day at mid valley but coming home feeling a little guilty because we were too spoilt with food and entertainment. Happy Merdeka, Malaysia! May this place we call home be blessed and may the younger generation especially my kids grow up to be compassionate and empathetic rakyat.
Merdeka mood on!
This has been our must-do in August. We got the merdeka vibes from bil since he moved to Puchong. Then the kids started school. Hubby thought we should walk the talk to teach them about our country by showing them patriotism and how we should appreciate the value of independence.
Happy birthday, Malaysia!
Merdeka Parade
Hubby promised the kids to take them to Dataran Merdeka today to watch the parade. Unfortunately, Xuan has slight fever and we only watched the live show at home. I have not been doing this for ages, when I was younger, I would get up early to watch the parade from the tv. Lucky for Xuan and Cheng, there were national anthem and 1Malaysia which they love to sing. Next year, perhaps, we have to make it to Dataran Merdeka!!
Merdeka Month
Cheng got up at 3am last night to ask for nen nen for a few seconds which I gave in but I couldn't fall back to sleep thereafter. I think I'm zombified. At time like this, I envy those who fall asleep easily. I'm a light sleeper. I wake up easily unless I'm really tired.
Last weekend, hubby and I managed to catch some sleep despite the kids got up early. When we got up, they were already freshened up. Xuan turned on the water heater and bathed the brother. Xuan has a good attitude since young that he doesn't wake us up or disturb us when we are asleep. He will play by his own until we are awake. He takes good care of the bro too when he is in good mood. So the kids told us that they wake up very early on the weekend because that's what their mind tells them to and they do not need a nap at all. They were very persistent in persuading their father to get Jalur Gemilang for them which eventually the father did. Then the father asked the sons' opinion on how to raise the flag, whether it should be on the pole or just hang on the gate. They somehow settled with the gate, though not really a nice one but seemingly secured. The kids learn national anthem and 1Malaysia from the school. They were in awe that mummy knows abit of 1Malaysia too. Because of that, mummy has to practice harder so that mummy can sing with them.

Xuan was swinging the bro who apparently did not nap at all.
