Hubby and I have been talking so much about nursing our homegrown gold medalist. Our country is really starving for one. When the news of our divers got the silver medals in Rio, we cheered and thought, perhaps we should re-strategize our sports direction. Hubby has a brilliant idea, instead of focusing on sport which requires many qualification rounds or rather takes many games before reaching final, we should just focus on easier one like diving or swimming. Then came the news of Singapore getting their very first gold medal at the swimming pool. Clearly, our neighbouring country and the young boy's family has invested a lot in him. They believe in his potential and thus sent him abroad since he was 14. Reading the news about how his potential being unlocked and how the parents get themselves involved in nurturing him is no easy task. We joked that perhaps, in order to make my kids millionaire, we should train them from now on. But really, this is no joke. An officemate of mine trains her daughters to be bowlers. She spends a lot of time and money hiring a national-level coach to train them. I'm amazed at the family's dedication to go for the training almost everyday. It's just so inspiring!
