I'm thankful for the invention of swing. I think it has eased me so much that the kids nap longer and I have more me-time to myself. Much has been said about its risk, thus we only allowed xuan to be in the swing when he turned 5mo. Little did we know the caregiver, my mil, at that time was finding it hard to juggle because Xuan has broken nap throughout the day. When Cheng came along, we just couldn't be bothered. He was put in the swing past his full moon. Maybe that explains his rounder head. Some people advised us against the use of swing for fear that the baby will grow dependent on it. Lucky for us, we only put the baby for nap so there has never been attachment to it yet.
But something funny that's worth to remember. When we came back from Taipei last year, Cheng climbed into the swing himself. Then he put his feet down and bounce the swing up and down. Finding it funny, we asked if he missed the swing. His answer was yes. Not even one minute, he got down the swing, with a smile on his face feeling satisfied.
Then, he started his daycare in mid-March. The teachers asked why his nap was so short given his age. He would nap for 20 minutes, that's the max the teachers recalled. I explained he was sleeping in the swing at the nanny's. So the teachers burst out laughing and told me to give him time. True enough, he was able to sleep thru in a week's time.
He is turning 3 in a few days and we still put him in it some days. He can nap 3 hours in it and it's just so amazing. He, somehow, is still a baby. A big baby.
