Having healthy kids is the best thing that parents should ever forever be thankful and grateful for. Cheng had his check up few days ago and he has to repeat the visit every 6 months until he turns two. Let me recall his severe jaundice story during the early days and that is the most horrible experience we had last year. Hubby and I took him home on the day 3 after he was born at Sunway Medical Centre. The following day, hubby registered cheng's birth at the government clinic nearby and on the day itself, the nurses came for home visit and asked us to bring him to the clinic for jaundice's blood test. We had gone thru the same tests for xuan so it was really nothing new to us. It's repetitive for the first two weeks until the reading goes down to a safety level. That day, we were told to meet the doctor on duty and he wanted us to come back the next day which was the eve of raya. We did and the reading did not go down still. Since it was raya the following day, we were asked to repeat the blood test at the emergency counter at Serdang or Putrajaya hospital. We chose Serdang hospital due to its location and never thought that cheng would be admitted there. I even promised my family that it would probably take just a few hours and we would come home very soon. Unfortunately his reading was 285 and the houseman and medical officer we met decided to hold us. Three hours later, it shot up to 475 and the staff tried to get our clearance if blood transfusion was allowed to be performed. Hubby and I were really upset and panicked. But hubby was taking it far better than me and has been my best rock of support and was very calm to face this. I cried and he was there to keep my company. When I went home to rest, he was there waiting and monitoring cheng. I'm forever touched when he assured me, we will face this together, do our best to raise cheng up no matter what happens. Few hours later, cheng's condition got better. He was on drips and undergoing phototherapy with 3 lights above him, slowly it reduced to double and single light and I was allowed to breastfeed him. I took some pics of him when he was under the UV lights and all hubby asked me was not to take the pics because he didn't want to be reminded of the pain we had gone thru. Cheng was there for 3 days 2 nights and he was scheduled for hearing test a few weeks later. Being paranoid parents, the wait for the appointment with government hospital seemed too long to go. So we took him back to Sunway for the hearing test again despite he had had it before.
Today, he is such a chirpy and naughty boy at home. When the pediatrician tried to keep track of his milestones by checking if Cheng can say up to 10 words. Hubby and I counted and yes, he says more than 10. Then, it is on Cheng's motor skills whether he is able to feed himself, hold a pencil and draw and so forth. We were thinking so hard trying to remember if Cheng can hold a pen himself because pens and pencils are hard to come by at home. Again, it is definitely a yes because we have a piece of his beautiful artwork on the wall at our new home. That artwork reminds us of Cheng who has been and is sailing thru his milestones very smoothly, although it upsets hubby because his wall has become dirty. Now, we feel relieved to see him ahead of the milestones.
We are indeed forever grateful, although Cheng has so many patterns, he is very unique in his very own way.
